Lo Shu Grid: How to Make Your Numerology Birth Chart

How to make your Lo Shu Grid (numerology birth chart) from your date of birth, step by step: the grid chart, Driver, Conductor and Kua numbers, repeated and missing numbers, and the planes.

Quick answer

The Lo Shu Grid is a 3×3 numerology grid chart in which every number from 1 to 9 has a fixed place. To make your numerology birth chart, you place each digit of your date of birth in its box, then add your Conductor number, your Kua number and, if you were born on the 10th or later, your Driver number. The numbers that repeat and the numbers that are missing describe your strengths and the areas that need support.

The Lo Shu grid chart

The grid comes from the Lo Shu magic square, in which every row, column and diagonal adds up to 15. Each number always sits in the same box:

492357816
Top row 4 9 2, middle row 3 5 7, bottom row 8 1 6

In Indian numerology this is often called the Vedic grid or numerology birth chart. Numbers Talk, founded by numerologist Arviend Sud, uses the Lo Shu Grid for every birth chart reading.

How to make your Lo Shu Grid

  1. Write your date of birth and place each digit (except 0) in its box. A digit that appears twice goes in its box twice.
  2. Add your Conductor (life path) number: your whole date of birth reduced to one digit.
  3. Add your Driver number only if you were born on the 10th or later. If you were born on the 1st to the 9th, your Driver number is already on the grid as the day’s own digit, so it isn’t added again.
  4. Add your Kua number, which the free DOB Calculator works out for you from your year of birth and gender.

Worked example

Example: a man born on 14-08-1995

Date digits: 1, 4, 8, 1, 9, 9, 5

Driver: 1 + 4 = 5 (added, because 14 is a two-digit day)

Conductor: 1+4+0+8+1+9+9+5 = 37 → 10 → 1

Kua number: 5 (from the DOB Calculator)

Grid: 1 ×3, 4, 5 ×3, 8, 9 ×2. Missing: 2, 3, 6, 7

The free DOB Calculator is a numerology grid calculator that does all of this for you.

Repeated and missing numbers

A number that appears once is balanced. A number that repeats is strong, and when it repeats many times its qualities can become too much: a repeated 1, for example, can make someone very self-focused. A missing number is a quality you have to build consciously, and it often points to the remedies a numerologist suggests.

Planes of the Lo Shu Grid

Numerologists also read the rows and columns as planes. A plane whose three boxes are all filled is a clear strength:

  • Mental plane (top row: 4, 9, 2): thinking, memory and planning.
  • Emotional plane (middle row: 3, 5, 7): feelings, balance and inner strength.
  • Practical plane (bottom row: 8, 1, 6): material life, work and money.
  • Thought plane (left column: 4, 3, 8), Will plane (middle column: 9, 5, 1) and Action plane (right column: 2, 7, 6).

Frequently asked questions

Is the Driver number added to the Lo Shu Grid?

Only if you were born on the 10th or later. For birthdays from the 1st to the 9th, the day’s digit is already on the grid and is the Driver number, so adding it again would count it twice.

What does a missing number in the Lo Shu Grid mean?

It shows a quality you have to develop consciously. For example, a missing 5 (Mercury) can show up as difficulty with balance or communication. A numerologist can suggest remedies for missing numbers.
