Quick answer
Numerology is not a laboratory science: there are no scientific studies proving that numbers shape personality or events. It is a centuries-old symbolic system, found in Babylon, Greece, China and India, that people use to reflect on their nature, relationships and timing, and to make choices such as a name spelling or an important date.

Is numerology real or fake?
Whether numerology is “true” depends on what you expect from it. As a predictive science it has not been proven. As a structured way of looking at yourself, and at the choices you can make, many people find it useful: it gives a clear language for strengths, challenges and timing, and it points to practical steps.
That is why Numbers Talk focuses on patterns rather than fixed predictions, and on what you can change, such as a name, a business name or a date, rather than fear.
Types of numerology: the main numerology systems
- Chaldean numerology: from ancient Babylon. Letters get values from 1 to 8 based on their sound, and 9 is treated as sacred. Most Indian numerologists use it for names. See the Chaldean alphabet chart.
- Pythagorean (Western) numerology: letters are numbered 1 to 9 in alphabetical order, and 11, 22 and 33 are kept as master numbers.
- Indian (Vedic) numerology: each number from 1 to 9 is ruled by one of the nine planets, including Rahu and Ketu, and readings centre on the Driver and Conductor numbers.
- Lo Shu numerology: from China. The digits of your date of birth are placed on the 3×3 Lo Shu Grid, now widely used together with Indian numerology.
- Kabbalah numerology: from Jewish mysticism, based on the Hebrew alphabet.
A short history of numerology
The Chaldeans of ancient Babylon linked numbers to the planets thousands of years ago. In the 6th century BCE the Greek philosopher Pythagoras taught that numbers underlie everything, and Western numerology is named after him. In China, the Lo Shu magic square, said to have appeared on the back of a turtle from the Luo river, became a tool for reading balance and energy. In India, numbers were tied to the nine planets (navagraha) of Vedic Astrology, giving Indian numerology its system of ruling planets.
